If health care reform is our target, then health reform is its bull’s-eye. Improving health and preventing disease are the most effective ways to decrease both the cost of delivering care and the human suffering associated with disease.

I am the owner/operator of a NP managed clinic. The issue to me for all of us is insecurity. Those of us who feel we need more credentials are insecure. Those of us who feel the need to grip ever more tightly on power and control are insecure. Those who turfguard because of fear of lost income, are concerned about what our clients/customers/consumers/patients call us, feel challenged at every turn, are insecure. We must develop some comfort and confidence in ourselves and our roles. We must engage in honest mutual and self assessment of our strengths, and find the most beneficial balance of services, according to evidence based practice. We must cultivate and express the respect and recognition between professional colleagues. The descent into bickering, denigration, squabbling benefits none. Some of us get it, some never will, the only constant in life is change. Adapt, lead, follow, or get out of the way!
