Faith Community Nursing

Faith Community Nursing (FCN), formerly known as parish nursing, is a specialty focused on providing holistic health promotion, disease prevention services, and spiritual care within a faith community. Like other specialties, FCN nurses provide patient-centered care utilizing the same skills and knowledge to address their specific patients’ needs. They may serve seniors and low-income adults as advocate and advisor, educator on health issues, organizer of support groups, trainer and coordinator of volunteers, and provider of health screenings. Faith Community Nurses may also provide referrals to community resources and assistance in obtaining health services. These nurses may work with individual churches, congregations, parishes, faith-based schools, aged care facilities, community houses, welfare agencies, and other health and social services.

In this Faith Community Nursing library, we’ve assembled resources to help you provide the best care to your patients. Our Pocket Cards are quick, handy references focused on cultural considerations and health screening events. Our infographics, tips and mnemonics, and blogs are additional resources to help you during your faith community nursing career.
