Never use infant sleep positioners, also called nests or antiroll products, warns the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). These products can cause suffocation and death when babies roll from their sides onto their stomachs. Some companies claim their sleep positioners prevent sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), but the FDA has never approved them for SIDS prevention because no scientific data support this. To reduce the risk of SIDS, infants should sleep on their backs on a firm, flat surface with no soft objects such as toys, pillows, or blankets.
